Tell me about your ability to work under pressure.

You may say that you thrive under certain types of pressure. Give an example that relates to the type of position applied for.

32. Do your skills match this job or another job more closely?

Probably this one. Do not give fuel to the suspicion that you may want another job more than this one.

33. What motivates you to do your best on the job?

This is a personal trait that only you can say, but good examples are:Challenge, Achievement, Recognition

34. Are you willing to work overtime? Nights? Weekends?

This is up to you. Be totally honest.

35. How would you know you were successful on this job?

Several ways are good measures: You set high standards for yourself and meet them. Your outcomes are a success. Your boss tell you that you are successful

36. Would you be willing to relocate if required?

You should be clear on this with your family prior to the interview if you think there is a chance it may come up. Do not say yes just to get the job if the real answer is no. This can create a lot of problems later on in your career. Be honest at this point and save yourself future grief.

37. Are you willing to put the interests of the organization ahead of your own?

This is a straight loyalty and dedication question. Do not worry about the deep ethical and philosophical implications. Just say yes.

38. Describe your management style.

Try to avoid labels. Some of the more common labels, like progressive, salesman or consensus, can have several meanings or descriptions depending on which management expert you listen to. The situational style is safe, because it says you will manage according to the situation, instead of one size fits all.

39. What have you learned from mistakes on the job?

Here you have to come up with something or you strain credibility. Make it small, well intentioned mistake with a positive lesson learned. An example would be working too far ahead of colleagues on a project and thus throwing coordination off.

40. Do you have any blind spots?

Trick question. If you know about blind spots, they are no longer blind spots. Do not reveal any personal areas of concern here. Let them do their own discovery on your bad points. Do not hand it to them.

HR QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: set 3

21. What irritates you about co-workers?

This is a trap question. Think real hard but fail to come up with anything that irritates you.A short statement that you seem to get along with folks is great.

22. What is your greatest strength?

Numerous answers are good, just stay positive. A few good examples: Your ability to prioritize, Your problem-solving skills, Your ability to work under pressure, Your ability to focus on projects, Your professional expertise, Your leadership skills, Your positive attitude .

23. Tell me about your dream job.

Stay away from a specific job. You cannot win. If you say the job you are contending for is it ,you strain credibility. If you say another job is it, you plant the suspicion that you will be dissatisfied with this position if hired. The best is to stay genetic and say something like: A job where I love the work, like the people, can contribute and can't wait to get to work.

24. Why do you think you would do well at this job?

Give several reasons and include skills, experience and interest.

25. What are you looking for in a job?

See answer # 23

26. What kind of person would you refuse to work with?

Do not be trivial. It would take disloyalty to the organization, violence or lawbreaking to get you to object. Minor objections will label you as a whiner.

27. What is more important to you: the money or the work?

Money is always important, but the work is the most important. There is no better answer.

28. What would your previous supervisor say your strongest point is?

There are numerous good possibilities : Loyalty, Energy, Positive attitude, Leadership, Team player, Expertise, Initiative, Patience, Hard work, Creativity, Problem solver

29. Tell me about a problem you had with a supervisor

Biggest trap of all. This is a test to see if you will speak ill of your boss. If you fall for it and tell about a problem with a former boss, you may well below the interview right there. Stay positive and develop a poor memory about any trouble with a supervisor.

30. What has disappointed you about a job?

Don't get trivial or negative. Safe areas are few but can include: Not enough of a challenge. You were laid off in a reduction Company did not win a contract, which would have given you more responsibility.

HR QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: സെറ്റ് 2

11. What kind of salary do you need?
A loaded question. A nasty little game that you will probably lose if you answer first. So, do not answer it. Instead, say something like, That's a tough question. Can you tell me the range for this position? In most cases, the interviewer, taken off guard, will tell you. If not, say that it can depend on the details of the job. Then give a wide range.
12. Are you a team player?
You are, of course, a team player. Be sure to have examples ready. Specifics that show you often perform for the good of the team rather than for yourself are good evidence of your team attitude. Do not brag, just say it in a matter-of-fact tone. This is a key point.
13. How long would you expect to work for us if hired?
Specifics here are not good. Something like this should work: I'd like it to be a long time. Or As long as we both feel I'm doing a good job.
14. Have you ever had to fire anyone? How did you feel about that?
This is serious. Do not make light of it or in any way seem like you like to fire people. At the same time, you will do it when it is the right thing to do. When it comes to the organization versus the individual who has created a harmful situation, you will protect the organization. Remember firing is not the same as layoff or reduction in force.
15. What is your philosophy towards work?
The interviewer is not looking for a long or flowery dissertation here. Do you have strong feelings that the job gets done? Yes. That's the type of answer that works best here. Short and positive, showing a benefit to the organization.
16. If you had enough money to retire right now, would you?
Answer yes if you would. But since you need to work, this is the type of work you prefer. Do not say yes if you do not mean it.
17. Have you ever been asked to leave a position?
If you have not, say no. If you have, be honest, brief and avoid saying negative things about the people or organization involved.
18. Explain how you would be an asset to this organization
You should be anxious for this question. It gives you a chance to highlight your best points as they relate to the position being discussed. Give a little advance thought to this relationship.
19. Why should we hire you?
Point out how your assets meet what the organization needs. Do not mention any other candidates to make a comparison.
20. Tell me about a suggestion you have made
Have a good one ready. Be sure and use a suggestion that was accepted and was then considered successful. One related to the type of work applied for is a real plus.

HR QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: set 1

1. Tell me about yourself:
The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise. Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest back and work up to the present.
2. Why did you leave your last job?
Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major problem with management and never speak ill of supervisors, co-workers or the organization. If you do, you will be the one looking bad. Keep smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an opportunity, a chance to do something special or other forward-looking reasons.
3. What experience do you have in this field?
Speak about specifics that relate to the position you are applying for. If you do not have specific experience, get as close as you can.
4. Do you consider yourself successful?
You should always answer yes and briefly explain why. A good explanation is that you have set goals, and you have met some and are on track to achieve the others.
5. What do co-workers say about you?
Be prepared with a quote or two from co-workers. Either a specific statement paraphrase will work. Jill Clark, a co-worker at Smith Company, always said I was the harder workers she had ever known. It is as powerful as Jill having said it at the interview herself.
6. What do you know about this organization?
This question is one reason to do some research on the organization before the interview. Find out where they have been and where they are going. What are the current issues and who are the major players?
7. What have you done to improve your knowledge in the last year?
Try to include improvement activities that relate to the job. A wide variety of activities can be mentioned as positive self-improvement. Have some good ones handy to mention.
8. Are you applying for other jobs?
Be honest but do not spend a lot of time in this area. Keep the focus on this job and what you can do for this organization. Anything else is a distraction.
9. Why do you want to work for this organization?
This may take some thought and certainly, should be based on the research you have done on the organization. Sincerity is extremely important here and will easily be sensed. Relate it to your long-term career goals.
10. Do you know anyone who works for us?
Be aware of the policy on relatives working for the organization. This can affect your answer even though they asked about friends not relatives. Be careful to mention a friend only if they are well thought of.

Go for a mock exercise before the real talk at the job table ...............

Campus So what if you are not a mountaineer. Or a keen hiker. You still cannot treat your interview like a careless morning trot along a jogger's path. Your jaw-jaw at the interview table is nothing less than a cautious climb up a mountain trail--which begins around your early childhood and meanders through the years at the academia before reaching a new summit in your career.
And as you retrace your steps down memory lane make sure that you post flags at important landmarks of your life and career, so that you can pop them before the interview panel scoops them out of you. You don't want to be at the receiving end, do you?
Face the panel, but don't fall of the chair in a headlong rush-and-skid attempt to tell your story. Take one step at a time. If you place your foot on slippery ground, you could be ejecting out on a free fall.
So prepare, fortify your thoughts, re-jig your memory, and script and design your story (without frills and falsity). Without the right preparation and storyboard, you could be a loser at the interview. Here are a few preparation tips that books on interviews sometimes overlook.
Before the interview
1. Chronological Outline of Career and Education Divide your life into "segments" defining your university, first job, second job. For each stage, jot down :
The reason for opting certain course or profession; Your job responsibilities in your previous/current job; Reason of leaving your earlier/current job. You should be clear in your mind where you want to be in the short and long term and ask yourself the reason why you would be appropriate for the job you are being interviewed for and how it will give shape to your future course.
2. Strengths and Weaknesses
You should keep a regular check on your strengths and weaknesses. Write down three (3) technical and three (3) non-technical personal strengths. Most importantly, show examples of your skills. This proves more effective than simply talking about them. So if you're asked about a general skill, provide a specific example to help you fulfil the interviewer's expectations. It isn't enough to say you've got "excellent leadership skills". Instead, try saying:
"I think I have excellent leaderships skills which I have acquired through a combination of effective communication, delegation and personal interaction. This has helped my team achieve its goals."
As compared to strengths, the area of weaknesses is difficult to handle. Being aware of current affairs and issues and happenings, which affect our lives, however remotely, shows a well-rounded personality. Interest in one's environment is an essential quality for a manager, as only when he is well informed about all the facets is he able to take correct decisions. Make a habit of reading newspapers like TOI and Economic Times and general interest and business magazines like Frontline, Outlook and Business India.Tip 2 #Being aware of current happenings is not enough. One must also form opinions on those happenings and issues that arise. Think about what you feel about different issues, say, terrorism. Write down your thoughts. Ask yourself why you feel that way, what are the premises underlying your thoughts and beliefs. Also question whether your point of view is based on facts, or on opinions and hearsay.

Tip 3 #The process of opinion formation is incomplete without getting inputs from others. Get into the habit of discussing issues with your friends and family. Hear multiple points of view. Listen, question and argue. Express your opinion. If you are proven wrong, accept it with good grace. Modify your opinions as you go along. This will help you clear your own thought process plus it will get you into the habit of discussion.
Tip 4 #While discussing, learn to check your temper. Maybe you'll find others holding view which are abhorrent to you. But remember that they have a right to their opinions. Everyone does. Learn to respect their points of views even if you don't accept them. It shows maturity on your part. This will be a good training for controlling your emotions, which is of utmost importance in a GD.
Tip 5 #Practice: Try and mobilize other people who are interested in GDs and simulate GDs. Get someone who has been through GDs before to observe it and give you feedback on your performance. It is better if the group consists of people who you don't know too well

HR Interview Questions

HR InterviewTell me about ur academics..Tell me about ur family background..What u are doing now..Why bglore..Hobbies..What kind of music do u prefer..Ur recent favourite song..Who is ur favourite singer..Strength..with example..Weakness..with examples and how u can improve on this..What is ur greatest achievement in life..Which is ur favourite pgmng language..Rate urself in C..Briefly describe ur main project..Software development life cycle..explain each phase..Who is ur role model..why..Where do u c urself after 2 years..What is ur goal in life??what if company's goal is different from ur goals..Why should i hire you..Any questions..---------------------------------------------
Technical Interviewtell me about ur academics..what was ur engg entrance rank..why u choosed this college..why ur aggregate is 68%..what is ur position in ur class..which is ur favourite language.. can u compile c pgm in c++ compiler ? I wrote wipro test on 28th of May 2006. I would like to share my experience. First n foremost if its campus recruitment then listen 2 their ppt properly as quest in techni round n hr round is based on ppt.

Pattern:
First section is vocabiliary, second apti, third is techni

Voc is very easy about 10 or 15 I don't remember the exact number, last quest was paragraph based on scientist research ....
tips fist read the ques on paragraph then read the para so that u have an idea on where 2 concentrate in the paragraph.
Some of voc ques that I can remember r
1."stuck 2 guns" means options r firm with the attitude,....
Some other easy ques.

Aptit section do r.s. aggarwal buk that will b more than sufficient. many ques r copied 4m agar without even changing numerical values.
1.ques based on data interpretation little tough and lengthy based on birth rate....
2.quest based on numb seqence
1
12
231
1231
13222
..........some series in this fashion very lenthy series. v were supposed 2 find next line of the series. tip is go through the option and solve.

3.ques on blood relation
tip draw diagram and solve. quiet easy

4.quest on simple interest and compound interest something like s.i-c.i=sum this ques was diretly 4m aggarwal with same numericals.

5.que based on no. of men 9 men do some work in some days and how many days will 13 men take. easy one.

Technical
1.for loop condition to print
1
12
123
1234
.....
123...n
4 options were given like for(I=0;I<=j;I++)
some more options try and solve this problem

2.questions basedon data struc,C,Unix,C++

3.ques on c++
{classes
object1:
.....
protected
object2:
....
Object3:
}
which object is not accessible by main program.i don't remembr the qu properly

3.ques based on networking. when u switch on compu some problem due 2 network .....answer is in ques itself easy one.

4.easy ques ans is clipart.

That's all I can remember.10 ques in voca, 20 on apti, 20 on techni I am not sure. There is no neg markin so try and answer all the que. First ans the ones u know properly set about 5 min 2 mark the ones u have left unanswe. but sectional cutoff is there. For ECE students cutoff is different(I heard ). 4 ec students cutoff is less in techni section and more in apt section.

Technical interview
This is the round where they try 2 eliminate most of them. some hr ques also might b asked like tell me about yourself.

Strength weakness, willingness to work in team, basic ques on 8085, 86, c, c++, Like difference b/w c c++,86 and 85,expansion of conio.h, how tv works, cdma technology basics.

They might ask u 2 write programs like swapping, palindrome using pointers. circuit diagram and algorithm for voting pad. they will ask how many codes have u written till now. mainly they check ur confidence level. at last don't forget 2 ask quests. like details regarding training some more quest that shows that u r interested in the job.

Once techni is cleared HR form is given which contains some questions on hobbies, ready 2 sign the bond....semester vise marks......

Hr round they check ur attitude and communication skills.some of them were eliminated in this round also.so b careful while answering think and answer. some of them who didn't do very well in techni round were asked technical quest in hr round also. I think techni interviewer will intimate hr person about candidates efficiency in techni skills. so try and do technical round well 2 aviod tec ques in hr round. some general ques like tell me about yourself.strngth. what friends say about you. what parents say about u. when they came 2 our campus every candidate was asked 1 elimination ques : why are your marks decreasing?

That,s it Gud Luck to all....
CTS Placement Papers 2006

Pattern for the Latest CTS Placement Papers and Interview

QUESTION PAPER contained 3 sections
VERBAL-----25question---20min
QUANTS N REASONING-------25 questions-----30min
general ability------20questions ----20min

verbal part a bit tough bcoz time management plays a vital role bcoz questions r easily solvable but takes time so maintaing the pace really matters
the questions were based on
->correction of sentences
->finding error sentence
->arrangin 4 sentences in a logical order
->Reading comprehensions
plz attemt Reading comprehensions atlast that would fetch u more time to complete othe parts in verbal section.

QUANTS n Reasoning
the section starts with venn diagram problem based on which 4 different questions were asked
second question was about seating arrangement7 people sanjay,samrat,sujoy,suneet,...total seven names were given some coditions were specifies just if u first arrange the persons then u can fly through the questions following it.
next logical premises were given based onwhich questions like all dogs r cats some cats are micewts the conclusion
all the quant n verbal parts just practice CAT material n RS agarwal nonveral reasoning. this really helped in solving questions in no time.
GENERAL ABILITY
the last part was so easy u can clear it in no time only just identifying odd figures from given set of four choices.
INTERVIEW:
the interview was on 3 sept 2006 my slot was at 1.00pm
the interview is based on the details in the sheet that is filled BEFORE exam which contains details like
1.ACADEMIC profile(X,inter,BTECH semwise marks,eamcet rank n marks etc).
2.software orientation(mention the subs of ur choice n be prepared to face questions on that).
3.wt do u expect from CTS.
4.activities n extracurricular profile(write ur achievements be precise don try to fill all the details of ur achievements be selective n striking).
5.short term n long term goals.
6.HOBBIES(reserve few bcoz u can use them in the HR PART)
INTERVIEW(tech+HR)
well i can say i had a stress interview, it was more of technical than HR, my HR was mr.ANUJ the person was too cool n friendly but he has posed me questions of a higher difficulty level he started with my intro (tell me abt ur self) then basic operating system definition ,databases(normal forms),then a tour of java starting with process n threads then again bac to mutual exclusion,semaphores..post which i really had atough time bcoz he asked me concepts of OOPS well i ezplained them then he gave me his cell phone and asked me to implement all OOPS concepts using the features in cell ,i explained he was really impressed by the last part....finally he said it was nice talking to uuu.
so only mantra to get throgh INTERVIEW is being confident and just steal the whole show ,n expose ur talent.
job TIPS

Hi ppl,

some tips.. or suggestions .. or ideas... or
whatever.. take it as u see it.

The first and foremost thing that is very vital in ur
placement preparation is ur ATTITUDE.
u can never get a job unless u believe that u can.

believe in urself even when no one else does... what
others think abt u doesnt matter..
what u think abt urself alone matters.. u r what u
think u r

Have the image of a winner. Even if u arent one,,
fake it ... it sends enuf shocks to other ppl to
declare u a winner.

You are no less than any what u call pandu in ur
class..( I mostly try to address the ppl with lesser
grades in this mail) or any other class.. I am sure
that u ppl would have been the toppers in ur class in
ur school days. have the confidence in u which u would
have had when u were in school.

believe that the last in ur class is better compared
to the best in other classes.( thats how we argued
with tcs last yr . they initally told us that ppl with
cgpa < 7 should not attend the written exam.. we
convinced them.. we cse students were exempted frm the
rule.. in the end, except for one all those placed ( 9
ppl ) had cgpa < 7. :-)

remember that u havent gone to the company beggin for
a job.. its the company ppl who are there in ur univ
to pick u ppl coz they think u r worthy enuf than the
ppl outside with experience.

believe me !! whatever u think will reflect in ur
behavior ( what u have in ur mind is what u display in
ur body gestures).. the way u walk, talk infront of the
company ppl.. everythng plays a role in the
placements.

preparing for the placements..

u dont have to be a person who knows everyhing, who
is the best programmer.. who is a gr8 logical thinker,
who can come up with a soln to any prob in a short
span of time,..... to get a job.

common sense. confidence.. and the ability to impress
ppl that u can (and also possess the attitude to)
learn are enuf to get u a job.[ all companies gives a
training b4 they put ppl in the job ]

what they look in u when u go for ur placements :

confidence..
learning ability
job interest .
motivation.

b4 u attend any written test or interview.. look into
the website and check out what the company is
basically into.. i mean their area of specialisation.
Go thru the basics of the same frm the books that u
read ..and also know the syllabus( u need to know what
u read and what u didnt during ur course ) ..
supposing they ask u some qn which u havent
encountered b4, then atleast u must know that u didnt
come across the term during the course. ( u can
explain that and tell them that u would definitely
look into the same asap.. that gives a better
impression than the "bendha bendha muliyal" u might
wear in ur eyes.. :)

also attend the campus pre talk that each company
gives.. they might ask u some qns abt the company (
like.. whats the cmm level of our company ?? .... and
so on..)

have a strong basic knowledge in c. gothru the "test
ur c skills" .. most of the companies.. come around
with qns kinda the qns in the book.

the basic fields most of the companies look at in u..
which u might prepare are
datastructures, os, microprocessors..

**********

ppl with better knowledge in the area .. can split the
subjects among themselves.. take notes..( u cam xerox
them and circulate them around ) and teach those ppl
with lesser grades so that the latter can have that
minimal knowledge to talk out when asked qns. devise a
plan... and the placement rep.. look into what can be
done.. it all depends on how united u r.. and the
number of ppl interested to help others..( i am sorry
to tell u this.. but i believe there are very few ppl
of the kind in the cs dept. PROVE ME WRONG !! lets
see.. ).

u need to coordinate between urselves during the
entire placements for all of u ppl to get placed.. in
our seniors batch that was a problem and many had a
tough time to find a job towards the end.
in our batch.. initally in tcs only ppl with lesser
grades were allowed to write the test( our own class
rule). and then infosys.. cts .. ( the toppers got the
jobs ). satyam hcl (lesser grades. ) .. this routine
was taken care of so that when the ppl with lesser
grades attend, no or very minimal number of toppers
attended the company interview .. that was one the
reasons how most of the ppl got placed much earlier in
our batch..

"UNITY IS STRENGTH" . toppers ( i mean the top 20 in
ur class)!! dont ever get the feeling that u mite not
get a job and in the process.. rush to the
interviews.. give others a chance.... u can always get
in the first company that u attend.. so set ur
priorities and wait until the company comes for the
placements.

********

there are some qns that every interviewer comes up
with.... like " tell me abt urself ( this is the 1st
qn that most interviewers come up . they normally dont
give u enuf time to speak . what they look into is ur
power to express.. ur communication skillss.. ur
attitude) "...
they get the first basic impression of what u r ...
and 50 % of the decisions are made out at this point
of time.
[ will try to send the set of qns to u later... or u
can get it frm the net ]...

all of u ppl ( esp those with poor communication
skills ) .. write down how u shud answer these qns..
correct them... then when u r confident that they r
right, crisp and rite on the target !! practise
them... look into a mirror .. imagine that u r sitting
infront of an interviewer rite now and then start
answering....look at ur gestures.. ur stress pause
variations...see how it looks .. u can also form small
gangs and one could play the role of a mock
interviewer.. discuss among urselves.. (
vetkapadaatheenga !! u can do it atleast with ur close
friends )....

and to the important part of it.. dont talk as if u
have rehearsed it a thousand times b4 the
interviewer.. make it casual.. ur gestures mite help
at this point of time.

********

ur gestures do matter!!

the way u handshake with the company ppl!!. give them
a firm shake for a few secs and then let go.. that
reflects the confidence in u.. dont give them a meek
( soft) one and also definitely not the hard ( un
kaiya vida mattenda doiiii....) kind.

walk brisk !! have an upright posture . koon
podatheenga !! and dont slump back in ur chairs.. sit
straight facing the interviewer.

answer the qns facing the interviewer in the eyes (
even if he isnt looking at u ! most of the ppl dont
but they can perfectly know if u are looking into
their eyes..or gazing elsewhere..)

even if u arent sure of an answer.. dont get tensed..
keep smiling.. ( valiyaaatheenga!! that isnt a good
sign ) but that small confidence smile combined with
the "i am thinking " kinda look. dont hesitate too
long.. if u cant get the answer in the first 5 or 6
secs.. its sure that u ultimately wont get it .. so
instead concentrate on what alternative response that
u can give ( like " i havent heard abt it !! will look
into it asap !! )

**********

i pity those ppl who get their jobs in the first
interview that they attend. only when u attend more
number of interviews u can understand what the
interviewer expects and how u must adapt urself.. in
that aspect.. ppl who arent able to make it in one
interview .dont give up.. go to the next one with
still more confidence.. if u r rejected again, dont
lose heart and cringe back.. instead sit down and
analyse where u went wrong !! dont do the mistake
again.. u can understand that on some later day ( say
4 yrs from now ) when u and another friend of urs( who
got the job in his first attempt) goto an interview ,
u have the advantage of better experience.. u know how
to handle the interviewer than ur friend.

********

and then...

u can always mail me... if u come up with a problem..
or if u need any suggestions....i will do all that i
can, to the extent possible, to help u.
i am no expert .. but then i have that minimal
experience as the placement rep for my batch
and i think i can share the lessons that i learnt in
the process..

ALL THE BEST !! GO AHEAD WITH CONFIDENCE !!
THE JOBS OUT THERE ARE FOR U ...

Placement

U can find some placement stuff here
